Leadership To Keep Children Alcohol Free
The Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free is a unique initiative that brings together governors' spouses across the country and across party lines to prevent the use of alcohol by children ages 9 to 15. It is the only national effort that focuses on alcohol use in this age group.
The spouses who are members of the Leadership spearhead efforts in their home states and nationally to reduce childhood drinking. On the state level governors' spouses have developed and launched Public Service Announcement campaigns; held special events for children, parents, policy makers and community members; developed videotapes and publications; spoken at town halls, forums and meetings; and organized community efforts to prevent childhood drinking.
At the national level, governors' spouses have presented Congressional testimony; worked with the Surgeon General, Members of Congress and other key policy makers to prevent childhood drinking; disseminated critical scientific data on the causes and impact of childhood drinking; and developed and distributed publications to assist parents, educators, policy makers and other community members in preventing childhood drinking.
